Just Enjoy the Show

Earlier this week I watched the Brad Pitt film Moneyball for the first time. While I liked the movie well enough, what really touched me was the song “The Show” performed by Kerris Dorsey, a young actor playing Pitt’s 12-year-old daughter. I loved the sweetness of her voice and the poignant lyrics.

Today in our practice, my partner and I explored Slogan 36: “Change your attitude, but remain natural.” As we were talking about it, these lyrics suddenly jumped into my mind:

I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don’t know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know why

I am just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the show

The sun is hot
In the sky
Just like a giant spotlight
The people follow the signs
And synchronize in time
It’s a joke
Nobody knows
They’ve got a ticket to that show

How much of your existence do you spend onstage, in the maze of life just following the signs? Can you let it go and just enjoy the show?
